Information
19th Century Guildhall, Derry - has beautiful stained glass
windows depicting the city's past.
'Derry' the name comes from the Irish 'doire' meaning a place of oaks'.
In 1613, James II granted a charter under the City Of London, which gave rise
to the prefix of Derry.
The impregnable walls have earned Derry the title of 'the Maiden City' and
still remains Derry's most notable feature.
The heart of the city is still laid out in a formal grid style with four main
streets leading to a square, "The Diamond".
