Fermanagh
Tourist
Information
Co. Fermanagh has been described as a fisherman's paradise,
indeed its landscape is dominated by Upper and Lower Lough Erne. Miles of
water, hundreds of islands and breathtaking views are around every corner of
the loughside roads and viewpoints.
The county holds a feast of religious settlements, castles and nature areas.
Several islands have ecclesiastical interest - Devenish has the remains of St
Molaise's monastery, founded approx. 564, and also boasts one of Ireland's
finest round towers.
The main town is Enniskillen, an island town of great military
importance, the site of numerous battles and several castles.
